Around 2016, a group of guys from the New Brunswick Islamic Center community wanted to do something for the needy of New Brunswick, who were living just two miles away from our mosque. So one night, we pitched in to buy ten hamburgers and went out to give them to the homeless. We did this every Friday night for a few months. We got smarter and began asking the community to bring us containers of food. In the meantime, we established a "spot," at the park across from the Walgreens. In time, we were giving out 50 to 100 cooked meals every week.
By the summer of 2021, community members loved our work so much, they helped us acquire our current property which is at 367 Somerset St. We now offer one meal a week, but our goal by 2030 is to offer a meal every single day of the year!
